The After School Program (ASP) runs from 2:30-6:00pm.

Pre-K 3:

A full day, 8:00am - 2:30pm, five day a week program with the option of coming three days if desired. 

 

The scope of the program is: 

• Recognizing characters from the bible through story, song and prayer
• Becoming an active part of a caring community
• Coming to know Jesus as their brother
• Establishing positive relationship and friendships with people of all ages
• Positively participating in group setting
• Playing with others more constructively
• Making connections and recognizing similarities
• Showing creativity and imagination
• Creatively expressing themselves – showing ability to narrate a made-up story whether verbally, with puppets or by some other means.
• Demonstrating comprehension skills and answering questions about books after being read to
• Demonstrating problem solving and the use of tools to achieve a goal
• Learning to use scissors and other tools that require both coordination and safe handling
• Holding a pencil correctly while writing and drawing
• Actively playing and using gross motor skills (such as kicking, rolling, jumping, and standing on one leg)

 

 

 

Pre-K 4:

Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 2:30 pm

 

The Pre-Kindergarten department at St. Matthias School offers a full-day 4-year old program, Monday through Friday.  Parents are encouraged to be a part of our school day by helping in the cafeteria at lunch and on the playground at recess.  Students must be 4 years old by October 31st and toilet trained, and ready for a learning environment.  Development of social skills is central to our Pre-Kindergarten program as well as preparing the students for their life-long spiritual journey and success in our Kindergarten program.

 

Specific to our Pre-Kindergarten 4 year old class:

• The daily routine is both academically challenging and developmentally appropriate for this age group.  Students are actively involved and discover education through experience as carefully planned by the faculty.
• St. Matthias School follows the Core Curriculum guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Metuchen in keeping with NJ State Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards.
• Students are evaluated throughout the year to benchmark learning milestones and development.  Parents have the opportunity to conference with the teacher twice yearly.
• Our full-day curriculum offers instruction in Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  In addition, “Specials” are offered once a week and they include Art, Music and Library.
• Parents or caregivers are responsible for transportation to and from School, per Franklin Township.
• Students are to wear the gym uniform.  Footwear should be suitable for running, jumping, climbing, sitting on floor, dancing, and creating works of art. 

 

The Kindergarten department at Saint Matthias School focuses on the whole child, with an emphasis on spiritual, emotional, social, and academic growth.  Together, the full-time teacher and aide work to present a program of differentiated learning through a variety of activities and the use of the technology including the chrome books and Promethean Boards.

 

Students may enter our Kindergarten program having had attended any Pre-Kindergarten program or with no formal school experience at all.  All children go through a screening process to better inform our faculty and the parent(s) of the child’s individual learning level at that time.  This level is evaluated continuously throughout the year as learning progresses.

• Kindergarten students look forward to Journal Time where they use their creative writing skills and Center-Time that allows them to work/play in small group settings where they explore new concepts and reinforce current skills at their own level.
• St. Matthias School meets or exceeds the Core Curriculum guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Metuchen in keeping with NJ State standards, keeping pace with 21^st Century Learning.
• Students are evaluated throughout the year to benchmark learning milestones and development.  Parents have the opportunity to conference with the teacher twice yearly.
• Students are eligible for transportation through Franklin Township.
• Kindergarten students wear the school uniform.

Grades 1 -2-3-4-5-6-7-8

Saint Matthias School  provides a comprehensive and rigorous academic program for its students. The curriculum is based on Diocesan and New Jersey Core Content Curriculum Standards emphasizing the quality of learning.

Our programs promote continuity and creativity to challenge our students so that they can live as disciples and citizens of the 21st century.
Quality instruction in Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health/Physical Education, World Language, Music, Art and Technology prepares them to succeed in a global and technological community.

Students Grades 1 through 8 learn a world language with an online Rosetta Stone program.  At the beginning of each year the student will choose one language from a multiple of options.

Each Student in Kindergarten through Grade 8 is assigned their own Chromebook to use for the school year.
