Established in 1965, St. Matthias School in Somerset, New Jersey, has provided a Christ-centered education for nearly six decades. Serving students from Pre-K3 through 8th grade, the school emphasizes academic excellence, moral development, and spiritual growth within a diverse and inclusive community. In partnership with the Catholic Community of St. Matthias and school families, the school nurtures students to develop moral values and life skills, preparing them to live as disciples and citizens. In 2001, the school was named as a "Blue-Ribbon School" by the United States Department of Education, and from 2021-Present, St. Matthias School has been awarded Best Elementary School in Somerset.
The curriculum meets or exceeds the Core Curriculum guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Metuchen, aligning with New Jersey State standards and 21st-century learning. Students receive instruction in core subjects such as Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, along with weekly specials in Art, Music, STEM, Technology, World Language, and Library. Each student from Kindergarten through Grade 8 is assigned a Chromebook for the school year, and classrooms are equipped with Promethean Interactive Display Boards to enhance learning .
St. Matthias School also offers a comprehensive After School Program for Pre-K3 through 8th grade students, providing adult-supervised care most afternoons from 2:30 to 6:00 pm and on early dismissal days from 12:15 to 6:00 pm .
